Eight-day solo bikerafting expidention from Neiva (Hula) to Mesetas (Meta). After months of dreaming up a route that would allow me to explore a new route while combining my love for paddling rivers and cycling up mountains, this was my first real crack at bikerafting. I took two trips to Caqueta in the months leading up to the trip to get some eyes on the rivers (Losada and Guayabal) and establish contacts in the region. These contacts proved to be invaluable as I continued to research and plan (from Bogota) the route, where I would stop, who I would meet along the way, and when I go (timing between wet and dry season was of paramount importance).
Day 1: Neiva – La Reserva el Pescador
Highlight: Climbing into the mountains to escape the heat of the Magdalena valley full of excitement as I set off on a big solo adventure with so many unknowns. I spent the majority of the day on a road that was a stone’s throw from a river and took me through several communities marked with FARC EP, both foreshadowing of the days to come.
